Everything that you wanted to know about Grateley Primary School
At Grateley we believe that everyone, including all the adults, should enjoy learning. That doesn't mean that we don't work hard but that we enjoy learning new things and getting better at what we can do.
Our School
Our school has about 100 children and we always feel that Grateley is rather like having a big family, everyone looks after each other. We have lots of adults in the school as well the teachers so you might well see parents, grandparents and neighbours here as well, all helping you to learn. That is what makes Grateley like a family.
PE and Games
Every class has a games lesson and a PE lesson every week so you must remember to bring your games kit on those days. Class 4 goes swimming for a few weeks every year so you will need to remember your costume and towel when that happens.
School Uniform
We have a school uniform which looks really good. The fleeces and sweatshirts are very comfortable and when all the school is together we look really impressive.
Home Learning
Everyone gets a little homework every week as there are some things that you need to practice at home as well as at school, such as learning tables and reading. It is often good to do your homework with an adult at home as they can help you when you have any difficulties. Older children will have a homework diary where they can list what they need to do.
A Day at School
- The school starts at 9.00 am when the bell is rung in the playground and you line up with your class. If it is raining then you can come into the school at 8.50am
- The register is then called in the classroom
- Playtime is at 10.45 am and lasts for 15 minutes
- Lunchtime starts at 12.00 noon and ends at 1.00 pm.
- You can have either sandwiches or a hot school meal
- Children in the infants also have an afternoon break at 2.15 pm for 15 minutes
- School finishes at 3.30 pm although there are often after school clubs for you to join
School Clubs
We run lots of different school activities depending on the time of year. At the moment we have football club run by Southampton Football Club, a general sports club, violin, wind instruments, keyboard, orchestra, choir, French club, chess club and lots more happening for short periods of time.
School Visits
We always try and get as many different types of visitors to the school as we can. We have had lots of different music and dance days and we have a special events week when we have a completely different timetable. We like to go and visit places as well so we never pass up the chance to go somewhere else to help our learning
School Teams
We like playing sport at Grateley and we have football, tag rugby, hockey, netball and rounders teams for both boys and girls. We also enter all sorts of other competitions such as athletics, multi-sports and the bi-athlon. In the summer we have a sports day with the whole school divided into 4 teams to find the champion team, lots of fun and much shouting.
Your First Day
On your first day you will be introduced to your teacher and given a "buddy" to help you settle in at the school. After a tour of the school we feel sure you will be quite at home and will start to enjoy your time at Grateley Primary.
