As with any thriving community, the XIII Century church acts as a mini hub, allowing people to meet, chat and enjoy the village as well as providing a place of worship.

Unlike many rural parishes, Grateley is enjoying a surge in popularity, not as a result of any particularly modern evangelist ideas (although all forms of Christian worship are encouraged) but because it is making a real effort to integrate with and relate to the society that it serves. This renaissance is evident in the many village events that are enjoyed by members of the village. These include: BBQs, wine and cheese parties, bring and buys, village walks and, at Christmas, carol singing to name but a few.

Ideas about even more ambitious events that could take place in the future include: a summer jazz afternoon, a traditional village fete (to include wellie throwing, terrier racing, cream teas and real ale) although we really need support and enthusiasm from other members of the village to help us make these happen.

Unlike these public events, much of the work that goes into the continued success of the church goes unrecognised. Hoards of busy volunteers help us with the church cleaning, the flowers, mowing the grass, seasonal decorations and, of course, the services.

If you feel that you would like to help with any of these activities (any welcome would be more than welcome!) please ring or email either of the Church Wardens; their contact details are on the right. The village school, the Brownies and the numerous families who come to the services help to ensure that the regeneration of the church and the community that it is privileged to serve and the vicar, Chris Pettet, is enthusiastic and hard working. He embraces the community and encourages families to join in with the village and church to share their faith as well as their love of life and the beautiful village that we all share.
